If I really want to control the device may b a RC car then I wud probably run a server which is always attached with the transmitter. I'll control the remote by using relays or transistor via computer interface and further it will be connected to internet server. where i can do anything, either by sending SMS, or my sending mail or even from live web server, i wud be able to take control and get status of the transmission.
