Based in San Ramon, California, Site5 was founded in 1999 by Rod Armstrong and Matt Lightner, who believed that web hosting should be fun, easy and not painful to use. Somewhere around 2007, the company was passed to new management, Ben Welch-bolen and Joel Brown.
Site5 was one of the first (or, maybe, the first) web hosting providers to offer add-on domains before cPanel had this feature. They started out as a small firm reselling shared web hosting and have become one of the industry’s leaders, operating 200 servers and hosting over 200,000 domains.
Their basic shared hosting plan comes with unlimited disk space and monthly bandwidth (data transfer). Prices used to run as high as $7.95 per month for the basic hosting plan, but now you can get their basic plan at only $4,95 per month (if you apply for two years) or $5,95 a month (if you apply for one year). You can host only one website, however – if you want web hosting for an unlimited number of websites, you can upgrade to a pricier web hosting plan ($8.95 per month). Migrating to Site5 from other web hosting providers is free.
Site5 also offers Cloud Hosting ($20 per month for a basic shared web hosting plan), reseller hosting (starting at $23,95 a month) and virtual servers (including Cloud VPS hosting).
Site5 provides very good general support. If you submit a ticket, they usually respond within an hour, and are very helpful with resolving the issues. And when using online chat, their response time is usually no more than 20 seconds, which is great for resolving urgent issues in real time. You can even informally chat with their CEO (inorite) on Twitter.
Statistically speaking, Site5.com’s uptime is 99.95%, which means that they keep true to their promise of providing 99.9% uptime.
If you want smooth web hosting sailing, Site5 is a good choice. I recommend these guys all the time, based on their support team alone. Also, they have very decent prices.
